Tongue ‘N’ Cheek @ The Joker
Winter has been extremely harsh for the street food vendor, with many coming off the streets and into the warm cosy surroundings of bricks and mortar (and in my opinion, all the better for it!). The latest to take up a new indoor residency is Kerb regulars, Tongue N Cheek. The Italian inspired burger vendor has set up shop at Islington pub The Joker of Penton Street and is seemingly the perfect match. The modern pub is a 5 minute walk from Angel train station with an open kitchen adjoined to the bar so you can order a burger while enjoying a pint.
The food menu includes all the Tongue N Cheek favourites such as the Heartbreaker burger (consisting of 50% ox heart and 50% beef) and the Philly Cheesesteak. As well as the old favourites, there are new dishes like the Pepite D’Oro (chicken nuggets) and Picchiapo Fries (slow cooked pulled beef with rosemary fries). Having tried the entire menu, I recommend the Belly Connection burger; a beef patty topped with braised pork, gorgonzola, and pimienton mayo.
The full menu is available Monday to Saturday from lunch time, and on Sunday they offer for a typical Italian Roast including healthy salad, pork belly, and sautéed cod. A cut above your average pub grub!
