The Takeover at Union St Bar, Waterloo

Gordon Ramsey’s Union Street Café received much press when it first opened in Q3 of 2013 thanks largely to the fact that it has Mr Ramsey’s name on it and there were (false) rumours of David Beckham’s involvement.  However what didn’t get any publicity whatsoever was the quirky Union Street Bar located below the restaurant; and after going down to Waterloo for a preview of the upcoming Takeover events, it’s difficult to work out why not.

The Takeover sees 3 of the most popular spirit brands spend a week behind the bar at Union Street offering cocktails, masterclasses, unique tastings, parties and much more.  Between April and June, Ketel One vodka, Don Julio tequila, and Buillet bourbon whisky will all take their turn to showcase why their product is fantastic.

If you enjoy vodka then Ketel One will be making martinis to cater for any taste, and believe me they mean ANY taste.  For Don Julio tequila’s week, no they will not be doing courses on tequila slammers, but will be showcasing the versatility of their 3 most popular products.  I’ve done a few tequila tastings in my time but none have involved popping candy, humidifiers or Margarita flavoured popcorn- a very enjoyable experience indeed.  The week will also correspond with Mexico’s Cinco de Mayo celebrations, so a tequila party may be round the corner.  Finally, from 9th to 15th June, Bulleit bourbon will host a week of cocktails including an unusual Apple Mustard Sour to coincide with National Bourbon Day.

UPCOMING TAKEOVERS

21 – 28 April – Ketel One
5 – 11 May – Don Julio
9 – 15 June – Bulleit
