Thames Rockets Presents Thames Lates River Tours

I’ve taken numerous boat rides along the Thames, and in all honesty, I’ve always found them underwhelming, especially compared to the luxurious yacht cruises around the Med. But the one thing I enjoy more than the sun is speed- so when I was invited to try Thames Rockets new late evening speedboat rides, I couldn’t hide my excitement.

Thames Lates is a new way to experience London’s landmarks as you board the distinctive red Rocket as the sun sets over the capital. We are welcomed onto the 12 seater vessel by our jovial Irish Captain who gives us a quick safety brief (don’t drink the water or flash other boats, that kinda thing) before we set off at an unexpectedly steady pace.  It turns out that all boats have to stick to a strict speed limit while in the city, so this gives us some time to learn a little more about London.  Although it’s a bit touristy for me, it was a good way to pass the time and I learnt an interesting fact or two (did you know that it is in fact the Shell Mex House clock and NOT Big Ben that is the biggest clock in London?).

Once we reach Wapping, it’s time to let loose, and it was certainly well worth the wait…

It’s quite literally 630hp of unadulterated fun as we skid across the water with high intensity tunes to match.  Although we are only going at about 35mph, it feels more like 70, and the best part is I didn’t even get wet- not even a little bit!  After the thrills and spills, on the way back to base we were treated to cocktails (shaken of course) by London Cocktail Club which was the perfect way to chill after an exhilarating 10 minutes.

The Thames Rocket ride continuously garners five star reviews on TripAdvisor, and it’s easy to see why.  If you are looking for a unique way to take in London’s scenery that will leave you with a smile wider than a Cheshire cat- look no further.

Thames Lates is Thames Rockets latest river tour that includes a 50 minute ride, cocktail, and guided tour. Priced from £39.50.
