Qcumber Presents: Classics on the Canal

There’s something quintessentially British about hopping aboard a canal barge in the summer months to take in lush bankside scenery. It’s even better when there’s food and drink aboard. Of course owning and maintaining your own barge is a costly affair – similar to owning a house and a car all in one. For most of us, it’s out of the question.

However over the next two weeks you could very easily find yourself stepping on to a London riverboat, thanks to mineral water brand Qcumber, while taking in a hidden side of the city as you sip cocktails, nibble canapés and travel along the historic waterways of Regent’s Canal.

The soft drink brand, which combines cucumber essence and gently sparkling spring water, has collaborated with boat hire company The Electric Barge to bring classic British recreation to Londoners for a limited period with a cocktail tasting menu inspired by famous literature.

Qcumber Presents: Classics On The Canal sees passengers stream up the calm waterways of Little Venice, Regents Park, through London Zoo and into Camden while enjoying delicious gin-based cocktails crafted around the fresh taste of cucumber.

Arriving on board guests will choose between a vodka and Qcumber or gin and Qcumber while the later tasting menu of cocktails takes inspiration from The Importance of Being Earnest, The Wind in the Willows and Pride and Prejudice.

The Pride and Prejudice potion signified romance in both its blush pink colour and sweet taste while The Importance of Being Earnest was a hark to Algernon’s cucumber sandwiches. The link to The Wind in the Willows was lost on us but nonetheless was a team favourite – fruity and fresh with the addition of Granny Smith apples and mint.

Aside from the delicious boozy beverages, cucumber canapés make an appearance, although fleeting – they were certainly snapped up fast! The boat is a treat too. Large, contemporary and completely enclosed by windows should the rain pay a visit. It also features central heating and modern bathrooms.

So get your hands on tickets, priced at a nifty £12, and enjoy an evening along the country’s most famous canal as you sip on freshly prepared concoctions crafted by the Qcumber team to this inspirational catalogue of British literary treasures.

Qcumber Presents: Classics On The Canal takes place on August 6th and August 13th 2015. Tickets cost £12 and are available via the YPlan app or, in limited numbers, on the door. For more information visit www.q-cumber.co.uk or search the #QcumberClassics.
