Night Tales, Shoreditch
Bad news; winter is here, but the good news is that the change in weather sees the return of heated, undercover street food parties. And last week, one of the best around, Night Tales launched for another 7 week stint and we got a first look.
There have been a few improvements since last year’s event that took place in Dalston; with the most significant being the location. They’ve now moved to Old Street in the space that previously hosted the Red Market summer pop up (and the Red Market logo still adorns the exterior). For non-East London residents like myself, this is much more convenient location and I’m pleased to add that the new space retains the intimate feel.
Secondly, I was a bit critical of the variety of food vendors last time, but glad to say the powers that be have listened and come up with a line-up that is the foodie equivalent of Glastonbury. Headlining is burger heavyweights Patty & Bun who have bought a new truck and a heavenly pork belly burger especially for the occasion.
Apart from the obligatory burger, I tried some superb grilled chicken wings from Randy’s Wing Bar; an utterly indulgent grilled cheese sandwich from Morty & Bob’s; and a smoky sausage and chorizo hotdog named ‘Clinton’s Love Child’ by Popdogs.
As well as the foods I tried, there’s also Korean cuisine from Yum Bun, pizza from Voodoo Ray’s and even Caribbean restaurant The Rum Kitchen have joined the street food revolution with a juicy jerk burger.
As well as food, there are some fab cocktail offering; my tip would be to head straight to the whisky bar upstairs for a chilled atmosphere and some rare bourbon and scotch offerings. Back in the main room, you can pick up craft ales, hot toddies, and even a winter Negroni.
Those that have been to Night Tales before will know that entertainment plays a major role and as the evening turns into night, it becomes a mini rave with DJs playing the best in electronic music to send revellers home happy and with full stomachs. A must visit if you enjoy creative cuisine and a party atmosphere.
Night Tales runs every Friday & Saturday up to 22nd November 6pm-12pm, then Thursday-Saturday from 27th November till 20th December.
