Monkey Shoulder Whisky Summer Cocktails

I love a good cocktail just as much as (if not more than) anyone on a summer’s day.  However, they can be a right pain in the backside to make at home with all the fancy ingredients and seem to take forever to prepare, especially if you’ve got friends that are impatient as mine.

But fear not, Monkey Shoulder whisky have created a cocktail list especially for barbeque that are designed to be quick, easy, and include ingredients that you can find in any supermarket.  This summer they’ve come up with the slow sipping Blackbird, and Illicit Still, as well as the light and fruity Shoulder Shrub.

We’re big fans of the Monkey Shoulder brand at I’m A Londoner because they are partly responsible for teaching us that scotch isn’t just a spirit for purple nosed men in smoking jackets.  Over the past few years they have championed the idea that whisky is cool; and their cocktail recipes have proved that.

To showcase the new cocktails, they’ve created a rather cool Monkey Shoulder booth at the London Cocktail Club (LCC) on Goodge Street.  Here you can try all the new Monkey Shoulder summer drinks, as well as dispense your own drinks from a telephone handset on the wall!  Having tasted the new drinks at LCC last week, whisky could well be our drink of choice if summer ever arrives!

Monkey Shoulder Summer Cocktail Recipes

The Blackbird

Ingredients: 45ml Monkey, 20ml wee van rose liqueur, 12.5ml amontillida sherry

Method: Stir and strain into chilled coupe, lemon twist garnish

Blackbird

Illicit Still

Ingredients: 45ml Monkey, 20ml cocchi torino, 12.5ml yellow chartreuse, dash peychaud bitters

Method: Stir and strain into chilled coupe, discarded orange twist

Illicit Still

Shoulder Shrub

Ingredients: 45ml Monkey, 50ml raspberry/sherry vinegar/agave shrub, 20ml rose vermouth

Method: Shake and double strain into old fashioned glass with block ice, garnish with seasonal berries
