Hardy’s Celebrate International Chardonnay Day
You may have overlooked it on your calendar but last week Friday 23rd May was International Chardonnay Day, a worldwide celebration of the green skinned grape variety. And one of the most famous wine creators, Hardy’s held a two day pop up in Covent Garden over 23rd and 24th May dedicated to all things Chardonnay.
The pop up was titled the 1853 Club after the family owned Australian brand’s year of conception and the pop up featured a selection of the best Chardonnay Hardy’s has to offer along with expert cheese pairings. Wine Blogger Miss Bouquet hosted wine tasting sessions ranging from sparkling Prosecco like Chardonnay, to the smoky mellowness of HRB. The cheese board selection was chosen by no other than Blur bassist-cum-cheese connoisseur Alex James (whom also attended the launch event).
Although I’m more accustomed to sipping rum rather than swilling wine, I’ve done a few wine tastings, but never ones that involved one grape variety. Being a self-appointed alcohol enthusiast I appreciated learning about the vast differences between Hardy’s Chardonnay varieties despite all being grown on Australian soil. I’m still more partial to the 40% ABV spirits, but if I’m looking for an alternative, then I’ll certainly be looking out for Australian Chardonnay.
