Floridita Rum Island, Soho

Last week Saturday 16th August was National Rum Day; who decides these things?  I have no idea, but whoever it is, buy that fella a flask of rum from me!  And to commemorate such a momentous occasion, we went down to one of our favourite haunts, Floridita in Soho to check out the newly installed rum island (and drink some rum of course).

Those who have followed I’m A Londoner since we first launched will know we are big fans of the D & D owned venue in the heart of Soho’s Wardour Street.  The rum island replaces the rum shack in the far corner of the bar and features relaxing seating and canopy to hide from the faux sunshine.

A cocktail menu featuring 5 drinks has been specifically created just for the island all priced at £10 each, making them a bit more affordable than the bar’s main cocktail menu.  The Watermelon Punch (served in half a watermelon I might add) is the pick of the 5, refreshing on a summer’s day.  An honourable mention must be given to the Nucleur Slush Colada too, an interesting twist on the Pina Colada.  As well as the drinks, there is a summer grill inspired food menu featuring skewers, burgers, and chorizo.

Many come for the live music and Cuban inspired dishes, but it’s often the rum cocktails that keep them coming back for more, and the rum island drinks are no different.
