Fat Ronaldo’s World Cup Pop Up, Shoreditch
There are many World Cup pop ups offering unique experiences; but few can boast as brilliant a name as Fat Ronaldo’s on Old Street. Inspired by Brazil’s lethally prolific striker, 2002 World Cup winner, and (in my opinion) the best Ronaldo to ever grace the pitch, Fat Ronaldo’s is one of the must go-to bar’s in London this month.
Based in the underground arches on the corner of Old Street and Shoreditch High Street, Fat Ronaldo’s is the brain child of DJ Andy Bird (of Happiness Forgets bar) and James York Pryce (Drinksmith), so you’d expect the drinks to be pretty awesome. The venue features two Tiki bars sponsored by Plantation Rum serving cocktails by the pint for £10 each; I tried the refreshing Jamaican Mule style Doctor Socrates made with Plantation 3 Star rum.
In addition, there’s BBQ street food comes courtesy of Smokey Tails, owned by none other than Superstar DJ Seth Troxler (There are rumours that he may play a set- so keep your eyes peeled), professional face painters on hand if you really want to get in the samba spirit.
The space is open every day of the World Cup from 4:30pm, and seating needs to be reserved in advanced, but there is plenty of standing around the three large screens. Tickets start from £5 upwards.
