Falling Skies Feast, Old Street

Two arms? Check. No violent fever? Check. I’ve eaten aliens and lived to tell the tale (although four arms would have been pretty amazing). No I’ve not turned loopy, earlier this week I was invited to Old Street’s ‘Magic Roundabout’ for the launch of Fallen Skies and alien grub was aplenty!

Highly acclaimed sci-fi series Fallen Skies returns to Fox on 30th June for its fifth and final season, so to cushion the blow of losing such an iconic show, Fox in collaboration with Miss Cakehead, threw a Falling Skies Feast to give the show a fond farewell. For those unfamiliar with the show, it’s based around a futuristic alien invasion of Earth where ETs have nigh on obliterated the human race apart from a small resistance of humans, leading to high impact action packed drama.

?????????????

The event was hosted at Prawnography, the summer seafood pop up created by Jim ‘London Mess Chef’ Thomlinson of #FryHard fame. It’s only right that such a free thinking chef would be in charge of such a feast and he certainly didn’t disappoint with the menu. Upon arrival I was greeted by Mucus Skitter Eyeballs aka Oysters with chilli sauce and black olive paste, before moving to the grill where neon green tentacles and Skitters fingers (squid) are causing a stir amongst fellow guests.

?????????????

The most impressive dish though is the multi coloured giant crabs. The huge crustaceans are bigger than my head and Jim provides us with rubber sledge hammers (no exaggeration) to break into the skulls- a strangely satisfying stress buster!

One of this summer’s must visit pop up spaces, the Magic Roundabout is also home to Burger Bear’s latest venture, a burger stall housed within a sea container. As big fans of the Burger Bear franchise, it pleases me immensely that I no longer have to wait till the next street food market or head all the way to Stoke Newington to get my hands on a ‘Grizzly’. The Falling Skies Feast is just a first of many weird and wacky events to come in the coming weeks, so follow the Magic Roundabout Facebook page for regular updates.

Falling Skies Season 5 airs Tuesday 30 June at 9pm on Fox
