Summary: Brixton is still missing a great cocktail bar but Courtesan will do for now

Dim Sum & Cocktails

Brixton has the food scene on smash with Brixton Village hosting Franco Manca, Honest Burger, and a range of eateries from all four corners of the globe.  Just round the corner you’ll find Courtesan, a Chinese inspired bar on Atlantic Road that specialises in Dim Sum and cocktail pairings.

The venue has a Ming Dynasty feel to it, with lots of wood carvings, including a bird cage that looks like it could be valued at £2m on the antiques roadshow.  The cocktails have some of the most unusual ingredients you’ll find in any menu with the likes of chamomile tea, chilli, and almond milk all featuring.  Not all the drinks work, but my favourite is the Shi made with Havana Club 7 year old, Prosecco, and chrysanthemum honey.  The food menu is purely dim sum sharing dishes with many varieties of steamed dumplings, savoury buns, and my personal pick, the Wagyu and Ribeye sliders.

Brixton still doesn’t have a signature cocktail bar to match the quality of food available in the area, but they’ll get there eventually.  In the meantime, Courtesan isn’t a bad option if you happen to find yourself in a post dinner / pre party lull.
