Agua Bathhouse and Spa Opens in the Mondrian, South Bank
The ultra plush Mondrian Hotel had to be one of the most extravagant launches of 2014. Anyone who is anyone in the world of travel and hospitality wanted to get a first glimpse of the building that was once known as Sea Containers House on the South Bank.
It’s steeped in history going back to 1970s and gained even more notoriety when it was decorated with a giant portrait of the royal family facing the Thames for the diamond jubilee celebrations. Now though, the entire south side is home to 359 luxury rooms, a bar run by Ryan Chetiyawardana aka Mr Lyan, whom is recognised as one of the most innovative mixologist’s, in-house cinema, and a breath taking roof terrace. The only thing missing is a world class health and beauty suite…and right on cue, last month they opened the Agua Bathhouse and Spa.
Although located in the basement of the hotel, don’t let that put you off; Agua is a treasure trove of treats. Nicknamed the ‘Spa Playground’, all the essential treatments you’d expect from a luxury spa are available, but the major selling point is the quality of products used. Signature treatments include Dr Jackson’s Natural Products boob bar, Glamglow mud party, and the Soveral stiletto smoother. As well as treatments, you can also enjoy champagne, raw dishes, and desserts, all while getting your nails done. On launch night we got to meet the makers of many of the products who talked through the process of creating such refined beauty products.
Being a spa treatment virgin, I was slightly hesitant to give them a go but decided on a Natura Bisse Cure facial. All my nerves subside as I was ushered through to a relaxation room that could have been transported directly from ancient Rome. My beauty therapist then talked me through the products she was going to use and how they would help, before moving onto one of the candle lit treatment rooms. 30 minutes later, I came out refreshed with a spring in my step and plenty of sound advice to protect my face against the harsh winter to come.
The Mondrian is creating quite a reputation for offering Londoners the best of the best whether that be comfort, cocktails, or cuisine, and Agua Bathhouse and Spa is no different.
